The men who will be leading the charge behind the bench for the Battlefords North Stars this winter have been announced.

In a press conference at the Civic Centre Wednesday morning, it was revealed that Brandon Heck will be the head coach and general manager for the defending Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League champions while Boyd Wakelin will be the new assistant coach.

Heck, 32, has been the coach of the Camrose Red Wings for the last four seasons in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League and has also been involved in the season-ending Alberta Cup bantam showcase tournament in recent years.

Wakelin will be a familiar face to many North Stars fans. The Battleford product played for the team from 2007-2012 and just finished a five-year stint playing in the Alberta College Athletics Conference for the Augustana Vikings.

Heck and Wakelin will be replacing Nate Bedford and Braeden Johnson, who left their roles earlier in the off-season.

The team also announced that president and governor Troy Slywka had resigned from his position Friday, with a vote expected to fill that role in the coming weeks.

More from today's press conference will be posted later this morning.
