Home sweet home: the Access Communications Centre host the North Stars for their next three SJHL games, starting Friday night.

NORTH BATTLEFORD - The Battlefords North Stars will host their next three games at home, starting with a busy weekend of back to back home games starting Friday night.

The North Stars will host the Yorkton Terriers on Friday night. The Terriers are currently second in the Viterra division with a record of 6-9-0-0 for 12 points, 11 behind the Estevan Bruins. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m. at Access Communications Centre.

Among the stars on the Terriers team is Tanner Sklaruk, who comes into this game as the SJHL Defenceman of the Week, after getting two goals including a game winner versus La Ronge last Saturday night, in a 5-3 win.

This Saturday night, the North Stars host their division rivals the Notre Dame Hounds, again with faceoff at 7:30 p.m. at the Access Communications Centre.

On Tuesday night, the North Stars faced the Hounds in Wilcox in what turned out to be the most exciting game of the season so far. The two teams went to a shootout which lasted seven rounds before Keiton Klein’s goal lifted the North Stars to the 6-5 victory.

The game was also highlighted by Steven Kesslering’s hat trick, with two goals in the first and one in the third. That performance earned him First Star honours.

Klein also notched a goal during regulation time, his first in the SJHL, while goaltender Michael Harroch got credit for the win in net.

Next Tuesday, the North Stars are home again for the first of two against their rivals the Kindersley Klippers. The two teams then meet again in Kindersley the following Friday, Nov. 12.

The North Stars enter this latest stretch of home games with a 10-5-2-0 record, on a two-game win streak. They continue to chase Humboldt who are ahead by four points in the Global Ag Tech Solutions Division of the SJHL.

In other North Stars news from the week, the club has just announced its leadership group for the 2021-22 season.

The North Stars have named their veteran Ryland McNinch as captain, with Dylan Esau, Sam Witt and Riley Little named the assistant captains this season.
