The Battlefords North Stars wrapped up their 2013-14 season with a final team dinner Tuesday night at the Civic Centre.

Following the dinner, the team handed out the final two awards of the season.

Blake Young and Cameron Blair shared the regular season top scorer award as both players had 43 points on the season. Young had 18 goals and 25 assists in 58 games with the North Stars this season.

Blair picked up 19 goals and 24 assists in 39 games between the North Stars and the Flin Flon Bombers. He had eight goals and eight assists for Battlefords in 16 games played.

Blair and Dillon Forbes were named co-most valuable players of the playoffs. Blair scored six goals and added three assists in 10 post-season games and was the catalyst for the team's opening series against the Estevan Bruins.

While Forbes only had two assists in the playoffs, he was an integral part to the blue line and a physical presence during all 10 games played.

Following the awards, the graduating players were presented with their black road sweater, a puck and a team photo.

Head coach Kevin Hasselberg said it was the responsibility of the 20-year-old players to "lay a foundation" for the players coming into the program.

"You've laid the groundwork of what success will mean for this program moving forward," said Hasselberg.

Hasselberg and assistant coach Blair Atcheynum greeted Blair, Young, Forbes, Ben Greenaway, Tanner Quinn, Taylor Reich, Michael Gudmandson and captain Kyle Schmidt with words of encouragement and a handshake as they received their sweaters.

"When that banner does get raised in the rink, you'll be forever remembered for your contribution to making that happen," said Hasselberg of the 2014 Kramer Division banner that will be hanging in the rafters at the start of the next season.

Team president Darren Huxley said the graduating players are now part of the alumni, which is a big part of the team.

"I'm just happy that we had a great year, a good bunch of guys and your futures look good," said Huxley.

"It was a magical season for us and certainly laid the groundwork for what to expect here in the future," said Hasselberg to close the presentation to the players.

Team captains Schmidt, Forbes and Quinn presented the coaching staff with a gift for what they've given to the team over the course of their careers as members of the North Stars.

With the final awards presented, the team begins to prepare for the 2014-15 season when the North Stars will start the defence of their Kramer Division crown.
