Five times this season the Battlefords North Stars have earned a win and a loss on a weekend set.
Not only did this past home-and-home series with Kindersley give them five splits on the season, the North Stars also split the season series with the Klippers with the home team winning all four games.
Friday at the Civic Centre, the North Stars were happy to have Connor Creech back in net, as he was recently resting a groin injury. Creech faced seven shots in the first period and his team gave him a one-goal lead, but that was short lived.
Brody Luhning scored his 13th goal of the season late in the first period on a nice display of stick handling. Dillon Forbes drew the assist.
Nearly two minutes later, Kyle Davies scored a power play goal for Kindersley to tie the game.
In the second period, there were no goals, but instead some fisticuffs. First Dillon Forbes dropped the gloves with Justin Schoffer. Later in the second period, Blake Young went after Schoffer after he was knocked down, but this time Young was penalized for fighting and instigating while Schoffer earned an interference penalty.
The North Stars killed the five-minute power play and went into the third period tied at 1-1.
With three and half minutes left in the game, the North Stars went on the power play. Matt Sheeran scored his fifth of the season from Josh Betinol and Joren Johnson.
Kindersley thought they tied the game the next shift, but the referee whistled play dead before the puck crossed the line and the North Stars held on for the 2-1 win.
Creech made 22 saves for his 16th win of the season, which matched his win total from 2011-12.
Tyrell King made 30 saves in the Kindersley net.
The same goaltenders were in net Saturday in Kinderlsey, but this time they had more work, as the game went to a shootout.
The bad blood from Friday's game carried over to Saturday, as there were a total of 15 power plays and 74 penalty minutes issued.
Sheeran picked up where he left off the night before and started the North Stars offence with his defence partner Joren Johnson and Braeden Johnson drawing the assists on the power play.
Ryan Doner scored in the first period for Kindersley, as both teams had four power plays in the first 20 minutes.
In the second period, both teams scored again, with both goals coming on the power play. Kindersley's DJay McGrath scored his first of two goals while Kyle Hall scored his 14th of the season from Betinol and Sheeran.
Braeden Johnson scored shorthanded in the third period for his 10th goal of the season while McGrath scored two minutes later.
Nothing was settled in the five-minute overtime period, expect Ben Greenaway and Justin Coachman fought at the final buzzer.
In the shootout, Betinol was stopped by King while Giovanni Bombini scored for Kindersley. In the second round, both Luhning and Austin Yano were stopped. Kyle Hall scored in the third round, but so to did McGrath to win the game.
King made 45 saves in 65 minutes while Creech stopped 34 shots.
The North Stars earned the single point and moved one point back of Nipawin with a 21-15-2-3 record.
The North Stars have nearly a week off, as their next action will be Friday in Weyburn. They also play in Estevan and Notre Dame on the weekend.
