Northwest shut out at regional basketball events

Teams from the Northwest failed to advance past the regional round in the SHSAA's Road to HOOPLA last weekend. There were 15 teams between the boys' and girls' divisions that qualified for regionals.

Teams from the Northwest failed to advance past the regional round in the SHSAA's Road to HOOPLA last weekend.

There were 15 teams between the boys' and girls' divisions that qualified for regionals.

On the boys' side, Lashburn was the lone representative in the 1A division. They fell to Wolseley 64-56 Friday night in Middle Lake.

In the 2A tournament, Valley Christian Academy downed Maidstone 83-38 in Osler Friday night. Thunderchild lost 80-48 to Caronport in Birch Hills.

After hosting their conference tournament, Unity travelled to Indian Head to take on Humboldt in the 3A competition. Unity lost 104-37 to be eliminated from the tourney.

North Battleford Comprehensive High School participated in the 4A tourney. They were dropped 99-55 by Marion M. Graham Collegiate in Saskatoon.

There were 10 teams in action on the girls' side. In 1A action, Wilkie beat Gladmar 63-42 Friday night in Kenaston before falling 67-43 to the hosts in the regional final. Kenaston eliminated Turtleford in the first round. Elsewhere, St. Walburg lost 80-37 to Filmore, Luseland was defeated by Herbert and Kinistino downed Hafford.

Lashburn and Paradise Hill were in action in the 2A competition. Lashburn was edged 52-49 by Regina Christian. Paradise Hill was beat 87-35 by Langham.

Like the boys' draw, Unity was the only girls' representative in the 3A tourney. They beat Esterhazy 58-47 in Indian Head. Unity fell 88-45 to Indian Head in the final of their regionals.

The NBCHS Vikings and John Paul II Collegiate Crusaders played in the 4A tournament. JPII lost to top-seeded Peacock Collegiate from Moose Jaw Friday night. NBCHS won their opening game 63-59 against Luther College from Regina. Notre Dame beat NBCHS 93-69 to knock the Vikings out of the tournament.

HOOPLA 2014 is in Regina March 13-15 to determine the provincial champions in each division.
