The Saskatchewan Mixed Team Golf Championship was underway on the weekend in Swift Current and 60 teams hit the links.
The tournament featured several local couples competing. The top local, or formerly local, duo was Tim Sletten and Rhonda Seidel, who moved to Swift Current.
Sletten and Seidel shot two 71s the finish at even par and tied for fifth place.
Randy and Diana Graham of Battleford finished +18 and in a tie for 30th. Tied with them was the team of Garry and Rita Flichel, who are also from Battleford.
Other Battlefords teams included Jim and Anita Simon, Keith and Paula Scherr, Tom and LeeAnn Cunningham and Dwayne and Donna Weber.
The tournament was played in a modified Scotch alternate ball format.Both team members made an initial stroke off the tee to begin the hole. Following the tee shot, team members exchanged balls and played the partner's ball until it was on the green.Once both balls reached the green, the team elected which ball to hole out with and would alternate strokes until the ball was in the hole.
The winning team was the Saskatoon duo of Ian Larocque and Kathy Ziglo. Ziglo is a three-time mixed team champion while Larocque is a two-time champion of the annual event. Ziglo also is a champion and annual competitor of the Ladies' Northwest Open at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club. The winning team finished eight strokes under par and with a five-stroke lead on second place.
