O'Hare in provincial action

As the province counts down the days to the Brier and curling fans are glued to their TVs to watch the Scotties, provincial level curling continues in Saskatchewan.

The Provincial Masters Men's Championship took place in Melfort and Wally O'Hare represented the Battlefords.

In five round robin games, O'Hare along with third Bryan Peever, second Doug Puff and lead Allan Rogers went 2-3.

In the team's first game Wednesday, Garry Kreutzer scored three points in the eighth end and earned the 6-5 win. In O'Hare's next game Wednesday, the team scored three points in the first and fifth ends to cruise to the 9-4 win over John Vallance.

Thursday, O'Hare squared off against Vic Rogers and after surrendering three points in the second end, four in the fifth and a steal in the sixth, O'Hare lost 8-2.

O'Hare faced former provincial champion Eugene Hritzuk in the next match and lost 8-2 once again.

With the playoffs out of reach, the O'Hare rink finished out their weekend in Melfort with a 7-4 win over Philip England.

Hritzuk went on to win the championship over Vallance 7-4 while Merle Kopach won the Provincial Women's Masters Championship.

Wednesday marks the start of the senior men's and women's championship. The men will be in Foam Lake while the women will play in Gravelbourg.
