It wasn't exactly fastball weather Wednesday, but that didn't stop the ball players in the Battlefords and District Ladies' Fastball League.

Opening day saw three games at the Flats in Battleford, as all eight teams were in action. New to the league this year are the Maidstone Ladies and back in the league after a couple years of absence are the Unity Ladies Rustlers. Out from last year's schedule is one of the Unity Bantam teams and the Edam Ladies as well.

In a battle of two local teams, the Battlefords Midget Bandits beat the Battlefords Survivors 15-7, as the Bandits weathered the Survivors' offence early and used a variety of pitchers in their first game to earn the victory.

The Northwest Vipers won their game in a mercy over the Maidstone Ladies.

Also at the Flats, the Unity Rustlers beat the Battlefords Bantam Bandits 16-8.

The other two teams in the league, the Unity Bantam Panthers and the Unity Midget Panthers, were scheduled to play in Unity Wednesday.

When action resumes Monday, the teams will play at 6:30 p.m. Game times change to 7 p.m. beginning May 16.
