Outlaws open up lead in standings with win against Maidstone

The Wilkie Outlaws extended their lead atop the NSRHL standings to seven points last weekend. The Outlaws won their 11th straight game Friday night, beating the Jets 8-3 in Maidstone.

The Wilkie Outlaws extended their lead atop the NSRHL standings to seven points last weekend.

The Outlaws won their 11th straight game Friday night, beating the Jets 8-3 in Maidstone. Kyle Wagner registered a hat trick and an assist in the game for Wilkie. Blake Bannerman, Rick Cey, Andrew Herle, Barrett Penner and Mike Sittler all found the goal column of the score sheet for the Outlaws. Troy Johnston, Shelton Paton and Morgan Thomarat were Maidstone's goal scorers.

The Meadow Lake Stampeders picked up a 9-5 win at home Friday night over the Turtleford Tigers. Ashton McIntyre, DJ King and Chad Crookedneck each had two goals and an assist in the Stampeders' win. Scott Fransky, Dustin Gorst and Quaid Tournier added goals for Meadow Lake. The Tigers were led by Justin Hougham and Adam Schwark, who both recorded two goals and an assist. Mitch Perkins also scored for Turtleford.

Meadow Lake followed up their win over Turtleford with a 3-2 win against the Edam 3 Stars. Crookedneck led the offence with a goal and an assist for the Stampeders. King and Logan Gorst also found the back of the net for Meadow Lake. Brett Jullion and Marc LaClare scored for Edam.

The last game of the weekend saw the Jets defend home ice with a 7-6 shootout win against the St. Walburg Eagles Saturday night. Troy Johnston had three goals and an assist in Maidstone's win. Andrew De Gruchy scored twice and Teddy Bear added a goal for the Jets. St. Walburg was led by Brady Zerr's four-goal effort. Brad Lejeune and Travis Nasby picked up the Eagles' other two goals.

Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, Wilkie (18-1) has clinched first place in the NSRHL standings with 36 points this season. St. Walburg (13-3-3) is second in the league with 29 points. Edam (10-8-1) is in third followed closely by Meadow Lake (9-8-1) in fourth. Turtleford (3-14-2) and Maidstone (3-14-1) are fifth and sixth respectively.

The final four games of the NSRHL's season will be played this weekend. There are two big games Friday night. Meadow Lake hosts Edam in a battle for third place in the standings. Turtleford looks to stay out of last place when they play in Maidstone. Both games start at 8:30 p.m.

Saturday night's action sees the league's top two teams face off in Wilkie as the Outlaws welcome St. Walburg into town for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop. The final game of the regular season is in Meadow Lake as the Stampeders host the Jets at 8:30 p.m.
