Outlaws take early advantage in NSRHL finals

The Wilkie Outlaws downed the St. Walburg Eagles 8-4 in game one of the best-of-seven NSRHL final Tuesday night. Wilkie took a 3-1 after the first period and made it a 6-2 game after two.

The Wilkie Outlaws downed the St. Walburg Eagles 8-4 in game one of the best-of-seven NSRHL final Tuesday night.

Wilkie took a 3-1 after the first period and made it a 6-2 game after two. The teams each scored twice in the third to round up the game's scoring.

Rick Cey led the Outlaws' offence with two goals and four assists. Barrett Penner picked up three goals and two assists in the win. Andrew Herle, David Schell and Mike Sittler also found the back of the net for Wilkie.

Sheldon Williamson had two goals in the loss for the Eagles. Travis Nasby and Scott Thompson also scored for St. Walburg.

Game two of the series is Thursday night in St. Walburg. Puck drop is 8:30 p.m.

Both the Outlaws and the Eagles played games in their provincial series last weekend. The Outlaws beat Hudson Bay 7-3 in Wilkie as part of their best-of-three series in the provincial C competition. St. Walburg came away with an 8-3 road win over Kelvington in the provincial D tournament.
