It's almost the end of summer, but Humboldt kids are still trying to get in as many activities as possible before it's back to school time. And one of those activities is the annual diving clinic offered at the Humboldt Aquatic Centre.
This is the third year in Humboldt for instructor Sydney Hesselberg, who is part of the Saskatchewan Diving Association. Over the course of three days, she helped eight kids learn a variety of jumps and dives.
"I like mostly seeing the fun they're having and everything they can learn, even on such a small diving board," Hesselberg said.
The clinic ran from Aug. 13-15 and is an annual event for the Aquatic Centre.
"It's just something that brings kids to the pool and offers them something a little bit different," said Aquatic Centre manager, Pamela Adam.
She added that they have a grant, so it's an inexpensive activity to offer for the kids and give them something to do.
The students learned front dives and back dives, and how to flip off the diving board. Hesselberg said that as of the second day of the clinic, most students could do flips off the side, but they hadn't managed it off the board yet.
"They've been good," Hesselberg said.
Adam hopes that the participants learn to have fun in the water and that they realized what is offered at the aquatic centre and bring in more people.
"I think the biggest thing is for them all to have fun and to see some smiles on their faces," Hesselberg said. "Haven't seen any tears yet. They're having a ton of fun."
