Pee Wees claim Muenster's third Provincial win

It was a weekend for winning. The Muenster Pee Wee Red Sox won their Provincial Championship in Estevan the weekend of July 21-22. "We went undefeated in our pool. We won all three games," said coach Chad Hofmann.

It was a weekend for winning. The Muenster Pee Wee Red Sox won their Provincial Championship in Estevan the weekend of July 21-22.
"We went undefeated in our pool. We won all three games," said coach Chad Hofmann.
After playing the pool, the Red Sox went on to play the semifinal against Yorkton, winning 12-8.
The final game was a little more difficult, as Muenster played against Lloydminster, the team that has won the provincial championship every year, said Hofmann.
"We beat Lloydminster 3-0 in the final," said Hofmann. "They have never lost a final. In that age group, they have won the final every year - it was the first time they ever lost."
The game was difficult, but Hofmann was proud of the way his team played.
"Our pitcher, Brody Frerichs, pitched a very good game," said Hofmann. "He shut them out which is very tough to do because they are one of the best teams in the province."
The other player who stood out through the weekend was Jordan Breker, said Hofmann, who had a home run in the final.
"He actually only got out once all weekend," said Hofmann. "He hit the ball every single time and had five home runs in the whole weekend."
He said although those two players stood out, they had a great team otherwise.
"Our whole team played well, but those two kids stood out and the rest of our kids rallied around those two," said Hofmann.
The Pee Wee team is made up of almost all the same players who won the hockey provincial championship earlier this year.
"I'm lucky to coach them," said Hofmann. "They are not too hard to get motivated because they love winning and they are pretty competitive."
Now that the team has won Provincials, they will be going to Westerns in Manitoba August 16-20.
"It is pretty impressive for Muenster to be able to go to those because we competed against the larger centres like Lloydminster, Estevan and Weyburn and we did pretty well," said Hofmann. "We are pretty excited to have a chance to go to Westerns. A minor team has never gone to Westerns before in Muenster."
The day wasn't only exciting for the Pee Wee team. Both Muenster Mosquito and Bantam teams won their provincial championships at home and the Midgets won their league finals over the weekend as well.
"It was obviously our best day of baseball ever in our town," said Hofmann. "I don't know if anyone bought a lottery ticket, but they should have done that, too."
The teams have won provincial championships before, but never have three of the minor teams in Muenster all won their championships in the same year.
"There has never been three teams and hopefully the Midgets next weekend can make it four," said Hofmann. "There are only four minor categories for provincial championships anyway, so if we won all four of them that would be pretty exciting."
