The Humboldt Peewee AA Broncos got off to a good start in their provincial play downs with two wins over the Battleford Barons at the Elgar Petersen Arena.

Prior to the first game the team was visited by members of the Humboldt Broncos Junior A team: head coach Dean Brockman, assistant coach Blair Wourms and captain David Stumborg spoke to the team about personal commitment and what it takes to win.

The boys took the speech to heart and came out with a 9-1 win over the Barons, followed by a similarly comfortable 12-3 score in the second game.

Under coach Michael Barlage, the team is currently in second place in the regular season standings, five points behind the Warman Wildcats. The Broncos have a record of 11-1-1, good for 23 points.

Assistant coaches are Kelsey Lindal and Dave Rowe; the trainer is Dave Holaday and Lisa Ochitwa serves as the team's manager.

The next round of provincials will take place against Prince Albert, with the first game in Humboldt on Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.
