The Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League's first place Prince Albert Mintos scored five power play goals Tuesday on their way to a 7-3 win over the Battlefords Midget Stars.

The Stars also had a successful power play unit with three goals on the man advantage.

The Battlefords started the scoring with Robin Yew finding the back of the net on a power play from Austin Duzan and Regan Yew. The goal was the defenceman's second of the season.

Jason Duret and Lance Yaremchuk scored later in the first period on the power play to give the Mintos the 2-1 lead after the first period.

In the second, it was two even strength goals by Justin Boyer that gave Prince Albert the 4-1 lead. Spencer Bast cut into that lead when he scored from Kent Walchuk and Maxim Powiade to put the Stars back to within two goals before the end of the second period. The power play marker was Bast's 17th of the season.

Four more power play goals were scored in the third period, three by the Mintos and one by the Stars. Lochlan Morrison, Yarmchuk and Kylar Hope scored for Prince Albert while Ryan Frehlick scored his 13th goal of the year from Braden Lacoursiere.

The Stars' Rylan Toth made 35 saves in the losing effort while Prince Albert's Lane Michasiw stopped 26 shots.

The Stars were 3/8 with the man advantage while the Mintos were 5/11.

The Stars remain in sixth place in the SMAAAHL standings with a 20-18-4-1 record. The Stars final regular season games will be played Saturday and Sunday in Wilcox against the Notre Dame Argos. The team, positioned to make the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade, can still finish fifth, sixth or seventh in the standings heading into the final weekend.
