Ready to drop the ball on new season

The Saskatchewan Ball Hockey Leagues is three years old and for the first time games will be played in the Battlefords. Due to the number of participants entered and the age range there will be two separate leagues operating in the Battlefords.

Due to the number of participants entered and the age range there will be two separate leagues operating in the Battlefords. Both the Under 10 and Under 14 leagues will start Monday at the Agriplex getting the seven-week schedule officially underway.

The Under 10 league includes three teams, the Hawks, Vultures and Eagles, which will play two games each a week running until June 22. The Under 14 league includes five teams: the Moose, Owls, Grizzlies, Vipers and Roadrunners all will play twice a week as well. The Under 14 league will play on the entire ice surface while the Under 10 players will be running half of the ice surface.

A league representative will be certifying officials this week and with more than 150 players from the Battlefords interested in joining the expansion of league that is gaining momentum and popularity.

The Battlefords, along with Lloydminster, Moose Jaw and Yorkton are the expansion cities for the 2011 season after Prince Albert, Regina and Saskatoon combined for 60 teams and more than 1,000 players last season.
