It was easier to run with the wind than against it but athletes bravely faced it both ways last week at the Battle River Division Track and Field Meet.

The main meet was held Monday at Lashburn with the hurdles and 3000 metre races taking place in Maidstone Tuesday. Teams were small so the athletes didn't have long waits to compete.

Several of the longer distance races combined ages and sexes and even with fewer competitors several records were broken.

Bantam boys' records fell as Ethan Moir of Neilburg set a record of 11.98 in the 100 metre race and Kale Moth of Neilburg set records of 5.56.76 in the 1500m and 12.38.44 in the 3000m.

Bailey Tyler of Neilburg set a bantam girls' record off12.97 in the 100m.

Midget Travis Baldwin of Maidstone set records in the long jump at 5.21m and in the 100m with a time of 12.16.

Senior Astrid Nyame of Maidstone broke records in high jump at 1.56m, 100m in 13.06 and 80m hurdles in 12.96.

The crowds were small but supportive and the patience and precision of the volunteers made the day run smoothly. Many of the athletes, including the entire Maidstone team, continue to train in preparation for the district meet in Meadow Lake this week.
