It was a full house on the ice, as well as in the Northland Power Curling Centre, as Regional High School Curling Championships were held on the weekend.

The new Northland Power Curling Centre was host to another major regional curling event this past weekend.

Several high schools from central and northwest communities that made up Region D in Saskatchewan competed in the Regional High School Curling Championships, held Feb. 15 and 16 in North Battleford.

It was one of five regional playdowns held around the province; the others were in Fox Valley, Estevan, Prince Albert and Maple Creek.

Competing were high school teams in boys', girls', and mixed curling action.

All participating teams vied for spots at the provincial championship to be held March 1 and 2 at various locations across the province. The format featured the top two teams from each division advancing to provincials to compete against representatives from the other winning regions.

In regional boys' play in North Battleford, Walter Murray went undefeated to claim a spot in provincials, beating Meadow Lake, Beechy and finally Holy Cross by a 3-2 margin to advance. Holy Cross wound up also advancing by defeating Beechy 6-2. Both teams now go to Assiniboia to play in provincials.

In provincial girls' play Loon Lake Ernie Studer advanced with three straight wins, beating Saskatoon's Evan Hardy 10-2. Hardy then beat Meadow Lake 6-5 to claim the second spot. The winning girls' teams now head to Carrot River for provincials.

In mixed action St. Walburg beat Outlook 11-2 to advance, while Spiritwood claimed the second spot beating Outlook 7-5. Both mixed teams head to Moose Jaw for provincials.
