The Rivers West district finished the 2014 Saskatchewan Winter Games with a strong final three days.
In the second half of the week, Rivers West won 11 gold, 13 silver, and 10 bronze medals to bring their total to 67 for the competition.
The district continued their success in skiing with 10 medals in the dual slalom events. Nadine Fehr won a gold medal in the under 12 female competition. Eli Klassen and Louis Lacoursiere earned a gold medal in the under 14 and under 16 male division respectively.
There were three silver medals won in dual slalom. Abbey Neufeld finished behind Fehr to earn the silver. Mitchell Harris and Devin McAllister won silver behind Klassen and Lacoursiere in their respective age groups.
Four more bronze medals were won in the event. Kate Abrahamson finished third in the under 12 female division. In the female under 14 age group, Shayna Fehr earned a bronze medal. On the male side, Liam Tkatchuk and RJ Cook placed third in the under 14 and under 16 competition respectively.
Biathlon earned Rivers West three gold and three silver medals during the second half of the games. Dante Carter won the juvenile female sprint race and Sarah Bargen won the juvenile female mass start. The female team also won the biathlon relay.
Bargen and Carter switched positions for silver medals. Carter finished behind Bargen in the mass start and Carter placed second in the sprint race. The male team won the silver medal in their biathlon relay.
Rivers West seven medals in snowboarding events. During day one of slopestyle, Brey Schlekewy won the under 17 female event. She also won a silver medal in the big air competition. Schlekewy also won a bronze medal on day two of slopestyle.
In other divisions of slopestyle on day one, Bryce Doherty and Dylan Joachim each won a bronze medal in the male under 14 and under 17 events respectively. Day two saw Tate Schiele win the male under 14 slopestyle event. Peyton Ernst left with a bronze medal in the same division.
Six more medals were won in various classes of wrestling. Leroy Murray and Arian Lumgair won gold the 54 kg and 60 kg classes respectively. Cain Witzaney finished second in the male 48 kg weight class, while Dakota Braun finished second in 85 kg male competition. Caitlin Davis took home a silver in the female 67 kg division. Evan Eide finished third in the male 67 kg weight class.
The last gold medal was won by Sarah Bargen in the peewee female cross-country skiing free technique sprint. The mixed badminton team, male curling and female judo team all won silver medals. The final bronze medals were won by Team A in the cross-country skiing female relay, Maidson Johnston in the under 45 kg female judo event and Eliezer Elvira in over 60 kg male judo.
Regina finished first in total medals with 89. Saskatoon won 38 gold medals, but finished behind Regina with 87 total. The Lakeland district tied Rivers West with 22 gold medals, but had 70 total medals for the competition.
