The Stampeders and Timberwolves did battle Friday night in North Saskatchewan River Hockey League action and it was a penalty filled game.

The Meadow Lake Stampeders won 8-2 thanks in large part to a five-goal second period, but the big story was the penalties handed out in the game.

Jeff Caffet of Spiritwood was given a match penalty for a check to the head while Meadow Lake's Brent Pevach was given a gross misconduct on the same play. Meadow Lake's Cole Fern also earned a 10-minute misconduct as did teammate Jordon Oystrick.

Suspensions should be coming from the game as both the gross and match penalties were assessed with 44 seconds left in the game.

Darren Caron led the way for Meadow Lake with three goals. Logan Gorst and Ashton McIntyre also had three points. Calvin Fiddler and Dustin Gorst also had one goal each.

On the Spiritwood side, Ryan Corrigal and Justin Finlay netted the goals for the Timberwolves.

Rick Dallyn earned the win for Meadow Lake while Marty Lehouillier was saddled with the loss after playing 40 minutes. J.R. Bussiere allowed two goals in the third period in a relief effort in net.

There are three games on the schedule for Friday night and four games scheduled for Saturday night.
