In baseball action, the Marysburg Royals opened their season on May 23 with a 6-4 win over the Saskatoon Outlaws in Saskatoon. The Royals play in the Saskatoon Senior Baseball League but had to wait a couple of extra weeks before starting their season thanks to the late-arriving spring. Dean Jaeb got the pitching start for the Royals and gave up two earned runs in the first inning, while a Marysburg error gifted the Outlaws another two runs and gave them an early lead. The Royals came back strong with a four-run fourth inning, capped off by a two-run home run by Brent Puetz. Strong pitching by Jaeb, Craig McWillie and Eric Bollefer kept Saskatoon scoreless following the first inning and was instrumental in the 6-4 win for the Royals. Marysburg's home opener will be this Sunday at 1 p.m. against the Saskatoon Stallions. The two teams have played for the league championship each of the past three seasons, so it promises to be a good game.
