It was three games, three wins for the Marysburg Royals last week.
The Royals senior baseball team took on the Saskatoon Outlaws in their first game of the week.
Behind a complete game from Luke Strueby, the Royals won by a score of 3-2.
They only managed five hits in the win, with Cole Bauml and Kyle Yarskie leading the way with two a piece.
But Strueby actually didn't allow an earned run; the two runs were made on two Marysburg errors on which the Outlaws capitalized.
"We played a really solid game and came away with the win," said Royal Curtis Strueby afterwards.
The Royals then took on the Smoking Guns in Marysburg on Sunday, in the first game of a doubleheader on a hot and humid afternoon.
It was a battle of the top two teams in the league, as the Royals and the Guns were tied for first place in the Saskatoon Senior Baseball League.
The first game saw the Royals win 3-2 in eight innings.
Dean Jaeb pitched a fantastic game, giving up only four hits, and the Marysburg defence didn't make an error.
"This is exactly what we needed as our bats were pretty quiet with only three hits," said Strueby.
Brent Puetz hit a two run home run to pace the attack.
The next game saw Marysburg win by a score of 6-0.
"Brett Yarskie and Eric Bollefer really stepped up for us on the mound, as Brett threw four innings and Eric threw the final three to secure the win for us," Strueby reported.
The pair of pitchers gave up only two hits.
The Marysburg defence played well also, only making one error.
"Our bats were also better this game as we had 11 hits, with Luke Strueby leading the way with three," Strueby said.
The pair of wins at home moves Marysburg into sole possession of first place in the SSBL with a 15-3 record.
"The Guns are still right behind us as they only have three losses on the season," Strueby said, "so we have to stay sharp if we want to hold onto first place."
Senior Provincials is right around the corner for the Royals as well, and they want to be playing well going into that tournament, he noted.
"We got the draw and we are in a very tough pool. In order to come out of it and make the playoffs, we are going to have to play very well."
Before Provincials, the Royals played the Saskatoon Smoking Guns in another first-place showdown on July 24, and they will host a rescheduled doubleheader at home in Marysburg on July 29.
The two games against the Saskatoon Diggers will be their last home games of the season, Strueby said, so he's hoping fans come out for the games to cheer them on.
"We have had really good crowds all year long and it's awesome to see the support we get from the people in this area," he noted.
Strueby added his congratulations to the local minor ball teams who played in Provincials, with special congrats to those who won.
"It sure is great to see all of the young baseball players in our area playing the game and having a lot of success," he noted.
