Four of the teams in the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League were in action on the weekend, as the season officially started for Cut Knife, Perdue, Hafford and Spiritwood.
For Spiritwood it was their first game in the league and it went according to plan.
The Timberwolves beat the Hafford Mustangs 10-2 Saturday.
Kyle Brataschuk led the offence for Spiritwood with three goals and two assists. Colten Anderson, Tyler Fisher, Ryna Turgeon and Lane Trowell, all had a goal and at least one assist. Tyler Kuzma, Braden Landy and Raymond Witchekan also scored for the Timberwolves.
J.R. Bussiere was the winning goalie while Ryan Knapton played 45 minutes in the Hafford net and Joe Lange surrendered the final two goals in the last 15 minutes.
Todd Forbes and Shane Gopher scored for Hafford.
The other game on the weekend in the SPHL had Cut Knife host and beat Perdue 9-2.
Dallas Sperle, who was so strong for the Colts in the playoffs last year, earned the win for Cut Knife.
Brandon O'Donnel had a hat trick for the Colts while Quentin Starchief had two goals and two assists as did Kirk MacDonald. Brayden Bertoia and Jordan Noble also scored for the Colts.
Perdue's Aidan Kerslake and Patrick Wier split time in the Pirates' net.
Garret Poletz and Clark McNulty scored for Perdue.
There are six games on the schedule this week as the other four teams will hit the ice.
