Make it eight wins in a row for the Melfort Mustangs.
The top team in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League kept up their perfect start to the 2017-18 campaign Saturday night as they defeated the Notre Dame Hounds by a score of 5-2 at the Northern Lights Palace.
Rock Ruschkowski led the way for the Mustangs with a goal and an assist, while Colin Schmidt had a pair of helpers.
Adam Hergott, Tyson Meyers, Loch Morrison and Vincent Beaudry also scored in the victory.
Alec Zawatsky and Marshall Wilton had a goal and an assist each for the Hounds in the loss.
In Flin Flon, defenceman Ben Lanfermann led the way for the Bombers with a goal and three assists and Daylan Marchi had three assists of his own in their team’s 7-0 romp over the Melville Millionaires.
Chrystopher Collin and Nick Schumlanski had a goal and an assist each for the hosts, who also got goals from Caleb Moretz, Mason Martin, Tyler Nyman and Nate Hooper.
The wildest game of the night took place in Yorkton, as the Estevan Bruins roared back from a 3-1 deficit in the third period to take the lead, gave up a tying goal from Terriers forward Shane Sherban with six seconds left in regulation and eventually won 5-4 in overtime thanks to a goal from Michael McChesney.
McChesney, Zach Goberis and Johnny Witzke had a goal and two assists each for the vaunted Bruins offensive attack, which also saw TJ Irey put up a goal and an assist to go along with Tanner Manz’s first goal of the campaign.
In addition to Sherban’s game-trying marker, the Terriers also got goals from Chantz Petruic, Kaleb Bell and Cody Illerbrun, while goaltender Nolan Maier turned aside 53 shots.
