Second half events begin at Sask. Summer Games

In Meadow Lake this week, the first half of the Saskatchewan Summer Games came to an end, as the baseball, female soccer, basketball, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, tennis and golf athletes headed home.

In Meadow Lake this week, the first half of the Saskatchewan Summer Games came to an end, as the baseball, female soccer, basketball, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, tennis and golf athletes headed home.

Now in the spotlight are the archery, athletics, equestrian, male soccer, softball, triathlon and volleyball competitors.

Competing in athletics will be North Battleford's Brooklyn Cockburn and Taisley Isaac, Battleford's Dion Tederoff, Wilkie's Kennedy Glassford, Justine Herle, Cjardai Ulrich, Brendon Alm and Mark Karstens, Edam's Paytib Morin, Kalie Nordell, Wyatt Malenfant, Cut Knife's Keri Rak, Medstead's Mackenzie Seidle and Scott Seidle, Hafford's Braden Kowalchuk and Turtleford's Damian Nordell along with Elrose, Meadow Lake, Pierceland, Kindersley, Eatonia, Biggar, Fiske, Flaxcombe, Tessier, Mantario and Eston.

The equestrian team includes Lashburn's Shae-Lynn Presley Smith, as one of the six athletes. Ruth Presley of Lashburn and Ellen Oddan of Maidstone are the coaches/managers of the team.

The male soccer team includes Jayden Cantre of North Battleford, Ehtan Babcock of Paradise Hill and others from Meadow Lake, Lloydminster and Kindersley.

The softball team is comprised mainly of Unity ball players, after the Panthers beat the Battlefords Bandits in the head-to-head playoff to qualify for the summer games. The Rivers West representatives will be coached by Brent Weber of Unity. Unity's Courtnry Boser, Brittany Hauta, Brittany Lacoursiere, Kylie Walz, Jessica Weber and Heather Wood will join Speers' Kirsty Kindrachuk, Wilkie's Rachel Mamer, Edam's Keinyn Nordell and four players from Kindersley and one from Macklin.

The female volleyball team will feature North Battleord's Megan Atcheynum, Battleford's Karlle Nash and Unity's Jensen Chorney along with Meadow Lake, Lloydminster and Macklin athletes. Battleford's Jana Friedenstab is also a coach for the volleyball team.

The male volleyball team is comprised mostly of Meadow Lake and Goodsoil players, but the local area will be represented as well by Duncan Sutherland of Borden.
