Senior athletes recognized

Rivers West District for Sport, Culture and Recreation recognized the athletes who participated in the Saskatchewan Seniors Fitness Association 55+ District, Provincial and Canada Games at their annual awards banquet heldApril 24 in Neilburg.

The athletes, who represented Rivers West at the Canada Senior 55+ Games were: back row - Lucille Hicks of Rosetown (bowling); Roger Seib of Rosetown (golf); Les Wardrop of Rosetown (bowling); Ron Ogg (bowling); Joseph Hoffman of Maidstone (bowling); Linda Kisling-Schriber of Saskatoon (track and field); front row - Edna Foster of Rosetown (bowling) and Agnes Hoffman of Maidstone (bowling) and Elizabeth Rollheiser of Marshall (bowling). Unable to attend the banquet were:  Joseph Boser of Unity (golf); Kathleen Bracken of Lloydminster (swimming), Ron Hay of Rosetown (golf) and Larry Reiniger of Denzil (golf).

Rivers West District for Sport, Culture and Recreation recognized the athletes who participated in the Saskatchewan Seniors Fitness Association 55+ District, Provincial and Canada Games at their annual awards banquet heldApril 24 in Neilburg.

The Saskatchewan Senior Fitness Association (SSFA) is a volunteer organization whose Mission is to improve the total well-being of seniors 50 years of age and older. Every two years the district playoffs determine a team to represent the district at the provincial senior games. Winners at the provincials advance to the Canadian Senior 55+ Games.

This past year up to 70 participants competed at the district games held in Rosetown. The provincial games took place in Saskatoon during July.

From Provincials, these athletes became part of Team Saskatchewan in the Canada Senior 55+ Games held in Sydney, Nova Scotia in August.

Members of the team participated in a range of activities from bowling to golf and track and field.

Bringing home medals from Cape Breton were: Joseph P. Boser (golf -silver); Les Wardrop (bowling - gold and bronze); Ron Ogg (bowling - bronze); Lucille Hicks (bowling - silver) and Edna Foster (bowling - gold and silver).
