Senior curling teams swept into Districts

Horizon School Division senior curling teams are in the thick of playoffs as teams compete for a berth in this weekend's district championships in Strasbourg. The A-side and B-side winners from each event advance to Districts.

Monday, the communities of Foam Lake, Ituna and Watrous hosted pre-district play, with area teams competing in Foam Lake and Watrous.
Competing in Foam Lake were the boys' teams from Muenster and Humboldt; in the girls' draw were Quill Lake and Humboldt, and in mixed was Quill Lake.
In the opening round of boys' play, Muenster fell to their hosts, Foam Lake while Humboldt defeated Lanigan. In the A final, Foam Lake defeated Humboldt.
On the B side, Muenster defeated Lanigan to meet Humboldt in the B final. Humboldt won the final to advance to Districts.
In the opening round of the girls' draw, Humboldt defeated Quill Lake, and Kelvington easily handled Lanigan. In the A final, Kelvington defeated Humboldt.
On the B side, Quill Lake defeated Lanigan to set up a Quill Lake-Humboldt final which Humboldt won in four ends.
With only two teams competing in the mixed event, a best-of-three series was played between Quill Lake and Kelvington. Kelvington took two of the three games, to win the A side and Quill Lake advances as the B-side winner.
In Watrous, LeRoy and Bruno, mixed teams took to the ice as well as the LeRoy girls' team.
In mixed play, Bruno dropped its first game to Imperial, putting them into the B side. LeRoy's opening game against Cudworth went into an extra end with Cudworth advancing and winning the A final against Imperial.
LeRoy defeated Bruno on the B side to advance to the consolation final against Imperial, with LeRoy winning a spot at Districts.
The LeRoy girls received a first-round bye and played Wakaw in the A-side final. Wakaw went on to win the A-side while LeRoy played Bellevue in the B final and won, punching their ticket to Strasbourg.
