North Battleford Comprehensive High School Vikings journeyed to Melfort last weekend for regional playdowns in the hunt for a provincial berth.
The senior girls' Vikings missed provincials by three points.
The Vikings placed second in their pool after round robin play, beating Warman 25-8 and 25-16. The girls lost to top team PA Carleton 25-17 and 25-16.
The Vikings crossed over to play Melfort and won in two straight.
The team was then defeated by Meadow Lake forcing them to play St. Mary's PA to decide who would be the third team heading to provincials.
The Vikings took the first set, PA took the second and it came down to the third set. The Vikings had the lead 20-17 but PA turned it around taking the final set 25-22.
"It really could have gone either way," says coach JanaFriedenstab.
"I am proud of the girls, they really fought hard. Everyone really wanted that win. We are in a better position than most teams for next year."
Both Meadow Lake and Carelton graduate seven players. The Vikings are graduating two Grade 12 students, Shallen McNabb and Jadie Fennig. Shallen has been offered a position with Briercrest College.
