Sharks celebrate 2013-14 season with awards night

The Battlefords Sharks handed out awards for their 2013-14 SFMAAAHL campaign Saturday night. Jetta Derenoski was named the team's most valuable player. She finished the season with 12 goals and 11 assists in 26 games played.

The Battlefords Sharks handed out awards for their 2013-14 SFMAAAHL campaign Saturday night.

Jetta Derenoski was named the team's most valuable player. She finished the season with 12 goals and 11 assists in 26 games played.

The most valuable offensive player award was presented to Morgan Fraser, who led the team with 14 goals in 28 games. She added four assists.

Keinyn Nordell was given the most valuable defensive player award. She tallied nine assists during the season.

Four other awards were presented on the evening. Misty Bird was named the rookie of the year, Taylor Cave took home the leadership award, Laura Harper and Alyssa Alger shared the most dedicated player award and Rachel Mitchell received the most improved player award.

The team also recognized Cave, Nordell, Alger, Jamie Powers, Latashea Frohlich, Brooke Lonoway and Mallory Roy as graduating players.

The Sharks began to fill those holes with their spring camp Saturday afternoon. Forty-four of the 46 players registered showed up for the camp looking to make next year's team. The fall camp is scheduled for Aug. 17.
