After a long holiday break, 23 days between regular season games, the Battlefords AAA Sharks were back in action Tuesday.

The eighth place Sharks went to Prince Albert to face the second place Bears in Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League action. The last time the two teams meet in December, the Sharks won 3-2 in a shootout.

Tuesday, the Sharks couldn't generate much offence and lost 5-2 to start the 2013 portion of the schedule.

In the first period Jacy Akre turned away 11 shots and the game was 0-0 heading into the second frame.

In the second period, five goals were scored, three by the Bears and two by the Sharks.

After trailing 1-0, the Sharks' Morgan Fraser scored on the power play from Jetta Derenoski. The goal was Fraser's first as a AAA Shark.

The Bears reclaimed the lead two minutes later and added another goal before Mallory Roy scored shorthanded for the Sharks with Derenoski earning another assist. For Roy it was her team-leading fourth goal of the season in 16 games.

In the third period, Prince Albert added to their 3-2 lead with two more goals, one on a power play.

Akre faced 40 shots while Sarah Olson stopped 12 shots in the Bears' net.

Shaylyn Constant, Morgan Willoughby and Kelly Regnier all had two points for the Bears in the win.

The 2-11-1-2 Sharks now prepare for the 9-8-0-2 Weyburn Golden Wings this weekend. The Sharks play in Weyburn Saturday and Sunday. The Sharks' next home action will be Jan. 19 against Regina.
