The Battlefords Sharks had a tough task on their hands before Christmas.

In a pair of road games on the weekend, the Sharks suffered 5-1 and 7-2 losses to the Saskatoon Stars, who have a 14-2-1 record and sit in first place in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League.

Saturday’s game was a 1-0 affair until the third period of play, when the Stars offence exploded for four goals.

Dakota Burt had the lone goal for the Sharks in the third period, while Chloe Burt was busy in goal as she made 52 saves.

Jordyn Holmes led the way for the Stars with a goal and an assist, while Jayda Sachs dished out two helpers.

Mackenna Parker, Kianna Dietz, Chace Sperling and Joelle Fiala also scored in the victory.

Sunday’s contest saw the Stars offence shine once again, as they raced out to a 5-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Keara Amson scored a pair of power-play goals in the third period to get the Sharks within three goals, but that would be as close as they would get.

Like her partner in crime Burt a day earlier, Chantel Weller was on her game in between the pioes as she made 47 saves.

Grace Shirley and Julia Rongve each had four-point afternoons for the Stars.

With the losses on the weekend, the Sharks now have a 3-11-1 record for the season and are in seventh place in the SMAAAHL standings.

After hosting their annual alumni game Tuesday night, the Sharks are now off until the new year.

The next game for the Sharks will be at the Battleford Arena on Saturday, Jan. 7 when they’ll face the Weyburn Gold Wings.

Both teams will play again at 1:30 p.m. a day later.

The Sharks earned 3-2 and 8-4 wins over the Gold Wings, who are have yet to win a game this season, in a pair of road games in November.
