Sharks fall twice in Melville

The Battlefords AAA Sharks tried to kept their games on the weekend close, but returned home without a win after facing the sixth place Melville Prairie Fire. The Sharks faced off with Melville losing 5-2 and 6-1 on the road trip.

The Battlefords AAA Sharks tried to kept their games on the weekend close, but returned home without a win after facing the sixth place Melville Prairie Fire.

The Sharks faced off with Melville losing 5-2 and 6-1 on the road trip.

Saturday, The Sharks were more than doubled in shots, 43-21, and lost 5-2.

After Melville struck first, Taylor Durocher scored her second of the season for the Sharks from Jamie Fedler and Delaney Ross.

Melville reclaimed the lead before the first period ended scoring twice on 20 first-period shots.

The Prairie Fire added two more goals in the second before the Sharks would strike again. Malory Roy scored her second of the season from Fedler and Ross.

Melville added a goal in the third period to add some insurance.

Jacy Akre faced 43 shots in the loss while Fedler's and Ross's two-point games were the first two-point games for any Shark this season.

Ross ended the weekend leading the team with six goals and two assists while Fedler and Roy have two goals and four assists each.

Sunday, the Sharks cut down on the Melville shots, but allowed more goals, losing 6-1. Ross scored the Sharks lone goal late in the third period from Rachel Trach to break the Melville shutout.

Jacy Akre faced 16 shots in 40 minutes while Rachel Mitchell played 20 minutes and stopped eight of 10 shots she faced.

The Sharks were outshot 26-24 in the loss Sunday.

Next on the schedule for the Sharks is a weekend trip to Wilcox to face the Notre Dame Hounds at the Duncan McNeill Arena. The Hounds sit second in the standings with a 16-2-1-0 record while the Sharks are 1-20-0-0.
