After a two-week break, the Battlefords Sharks ran into a tough matchup against the Prince Albert A&W Bears Saturday and couldn't shutdown their high-powered offence.
The Bears had a large advantage in time of possession and outshot the Sharks 45-25. Prince Albert jumped out to a quick first-period lead, scoring twice in the first seven minutes as the Sharks shook off the rust from a long break.
After being outplayed early, Morgan Fraser scored a gorgeous goal with three minutes left in the period. She stepped into the slot and ripped a wrist shot over the shoulder of Bears goalie Shayla Youngman.
The Sharks tied the game briefly in the second when Brooke Lonoway scored a powerplay goal for her second point of the game. The Bears scored four minutes later, then six minutes after that for a 4-2 lead.
The consistent attack for the Bears continued in the third. They added three goals and only Jetta Derenoski was able to solve Youngman, resulting in a 7-3 Prince Albert win.
It was the first game in Battleford for the Sharks and they're back on the road again this weekend when they play a pair of games in Weyburn, who sit second in the standings. The Sharks aren't back at home until Nov. 9, which kicks off a long home stand, after playing six of their first seven games on the road.
Through three games, the Sharks are sixth in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League standings with one win and two losses. They sit one point behind Melville, who has played one more game. Saskatoon's 15 points gives them a commanding lead in first place, with their only loss coming in overtime compared to five wins.
