Good goaltending can go a long way.
The Battlefords AAA Sharks found that out Wednesday night, as they were in Prince Albert to face the Bears in Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League action.
Jacy Akre faced 45 shots through regulation and a five-minute overtime and helped her team win their second game of the season.
The teams were held scoreless in the first period and Prince Albert eventually grabbed a 2-0 lead. Tylor Lindsay scored an even strength goal and Kelly Regnier added a power play goal for the home team.
Later in the second period, the Sharks offence got on the board, as Rachel Trach scored her first of the season on a power play from Laura Harper and Emily Wilson.
The Sharks were outshot in every period, but made the most of a third period chance and tied the game with less than five minutes left. Taylor Durocher scored unassisted for her second of the season.
In overtime, the Bears outshot the Sharks 4-0, but nothing was settled.
Five of the six shooters in the shootout failed to score, but it was the Sharks' last shooter, Shania Rhinehart, who scored and won the game for the Sharks.
Both teams had one goal on five power play chances, but it was the play of Akre that couldn't go unnoticed, as she was named the Sharks' player of the game while her team was outshot 45-15.
Prince Albert is first in the league with a 10-2-0-2 record while the Sharks are eighth with a 2-8-1-2 mark.
The Sharks are now off until Dec. 15 and 16 when they travel to Regina to face the second overall Rebels.
