Sharks' offensive outburst not enough

For the first time this season, the Battlefords AAA Sharks scored more than two goals in a game, unfortunately the Prince Albert Bears doubled them for an 8-4 win Wednesday.

For the first time this season, the Battlefords AAA Sharks scored more than two goals in a game, unfortunately the Prince Albert Bears doubled them for an 8-4 win Wednesday.

Prince Albert put 69 shots at Jacy Akre, who is in the hunt for the all-time league record for shots against with 1,545.

Prince Albert scored first, five minutes into the game, with one of their four power play goals.

Shania Rhinehart evened the score with her third of the season four minutes later from Kendra Gerbig and Malory Roy.

Prince Albert turned up the pressure and went up 4-1, but before the first period was over Sharks' forward Delaney Ross scored on the power play from Raeanna Kelly and Shayna Thomas for her eighth goal of the season.

Prince Albert scored the only goals in the second period and took a 6-2 lead into the final frame.

Seconds after the Bears increased their lead with a shorthanded marker, affiliated player Jetta Derenoski scored on the power play for her third goal of the season from Roy and Kelly.

Derenoski struck again from Kelly and Ross later in the third period and moved into the second spot on the Sharks roster for goals' scored this season, behind only Ross.

The Bears added one more for the 8-4 win.

Prince Albert was 4/10 on the power play while the Sharks were 2/8 and had 18 shots in the game.

The Sharks were in action Tuesday at home to the Saskatoon Stars and have two roads games in Weyburn, this weekend, and a home game against Prince Albert Feb. 17 remaining on their regular season schedule.
