After a pair of losses in Weyburn over the weekend, the Battlefords Sharks are on a two-week break before hitting the ice again.
The Sharks took on the Southern Range Gold Wings Saturday and Sunday and lost each contest. Weyburn took Saturday's game 5-1 and were led by a four-goal, five-point performance from Paige Smith. Jamie Powers was busy in net for the Sharks, facing 47 shots in the game. Morgan Fraser had the only Sharks goal.
The penalty kill was outstanding for both teams, who had five power plays each, but neither could capitalize.
It was a much better offensive performance for the Sharks in game two. Fraser scored her second of the weekend in the first period and Mallory Roy scored her fifth and sixth goals of the year, putting her in second place in the league. Roy also had an assist and currently leads the league in points per game. The other goal for the Sharks came from Jetta Derenoski, which is her second of the season.
Despite the strong Sharks performance, a balanced attack from Weyburn earned them the 7-4 win to sweep the weekend series with 11 players registering points.
The Sharks are in seventh place among the eight teams in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League. However, all but one team have played more games than the Sharks thus far. They aren't back on the ice until Nov. 2 when they head to Notre Dame. The next home game is Nov. 9 against Melville.
