The Battlefords Bantam Sharks, coached by Pat Bugler and Jamie Smith, will see their season draw to a close this weekend with an exhibition game against Spiritwood Friday.

The Sharks played in a competitive bantam division in the East Central Alberta Female Hockey League and although the Sharks team was young, consisting of five peewee age players, six first year bantams and only two second year bantams, they gave a strong showing.

The Sharks posted a 9-5-2 record in league play and finished third in the standings. The Sharks faced Bonneyville in the quarter-finals in playoffs and prevailed in that series two games to one. In the semifinals the Sharks took on the Lloyminster Mall Bantams, a team that had finished with an identical win/loss record in the league. Game one resulted in a tough 6-5 loss for the Sharks. They bowed out of the playoffs with a 4-0 loss in game two of the series.

The Sharks were led this past year by the solid goaltending of Danae Bugler, who gave the girls a chance to win each game. Leading the team and the league in scoring was Morgan Lamontange. She scored 24 points, 12 goals and 12 assists. Every game the Sharks played this year was competitive.

Now as they wrap up their season they can look ahead to next year and, with all but two players eligible to return, the Battlefords Bantam Sharks' future looks promising.
