BATTLEFORD - The Battlefords AAA Sharks are off to a one win and two loss start in the Saskatchewan U18 AAA Hockey League.

The Sharks hope to improve on that this weekend as they return to action Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1:30 p.m. at Battleford Arena against the Regina Rebels. The Rebels are off to a 2-0 start after sweeping two games with Prince Albert last weekend.

The Sharks also enter the game with momentum, after winning their first game of the season Thursday against Prince Albert Bears 4-1 at Battleford Arena.

Madison Guitard and Mykayla Pylypow got the first period goals. In the second period Jazlyn Petreman got a power play goal early in the period to cut it to 2-1, but Alyson Hockley scored on the power play later in the period for a two goal lead.

Ava Cole got the only goal in the third period to secure the win. Emma Backman stopped 26 of 27 shots for the Sharks win.

Last weekend, the Sharks had their home opener Saturday, Oct. 9 against the Swift Current Wildcats, losing by a 2-0 score.

The two teams met again last Sunday where the Wildcats again prevailed, this time by a 5-1 score. The Wildcats capitalized on two power play goals and two shorthanded goals in building a 4-0 lead. Mykayla Pylypow had the only goal for the Sharks.

Upcoming games for the Sharks after this weekend include their first road game of the season in Prince Albert Oct. 21, and then back home for two weekend games against Notre Dame Oct 23 and 24.
