The Battlefords AAA Sharks had their new interim coaches Brittany Penner and Jordan Solomko on the bench this weekend, as they hosted the Regina Rebels.

The Sharks got great goaltending from Jacy Akre both games, and stayed close, but fell short in both games against the Rebels at the Battleford Arena.

Saturday, the Rebels scored twice in the first, twice in the second and twice in the third to take the 6-0 win.

Akre faced 11 shots in the first period, followed by 23 in the second and 14 in the third for a total of 42 saves.

Rae McClintock made 10 saves for the shutout.

Sunday, the Sharks held Regina off the board after the first period, but gave up two in the second to fall behind.

In the third period, Jamie Fedler scored a shorthanded goal unassisted to pull the Sharks to within a goal, but a late power play marker by the Rebels put them up 3-1 and that was how the game ended.

The Rebels put 55 shots at Akre Sunday. Regina was 5/13 in the two games on the power play while the Sharks' weekend mark was 0/8 with the man advantage.

With just 11 skaters, the Sharks seemed to hold their own early in both games, but eventually ran out of steam against Regina, who had a 16-player roster.

The Sharks are 0-6-0-0 this season while Regina improved to 6-4-0-0.

This weekend the Sharks will be in Saskatoon to take on the 8-2-0-0 Saskatoon Stars in Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League action.

According to the league website, the deadline for coaches to submit a resume to apply for the head coach position is Monday, Nov. 21.
