Sharks surrender a dozen twice against Notre Dame

The Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League first versus eighth place quarterfinal series got started on the weekend and unfortunately for the Battlefords AAA Sharks it went as many would expect.

The first place Notre Dame Hounds went up 2-0 in the best-of-five series against the Sharks.

Game one Saturday, the Sharks were out shot 58-14 and lost 12-0. Olivia Howe, the league's top scorer had six goals and an assist in the game while Brittany Berisoff had six points and Kelty Apperson had five.

Jacy Akre was in net for the Sharks through the first 40 minutes and stopped 34 of 43 shots. In the third period, Rachel Mitchell surrendered three goals on 15 shots.

The Hounds were 3/8 on the power play while the Sharks were 0/2.

Sunday in game two, the Sharks found the back of the net twice, while allowing 12 goals once again.

In the second period, the Sharks' leading scorer, Delaney Ross, scored from Shania Rhinehart on a power play. In the third, defenceman Rachel Trach scored from Shayna Thomas.

Akre and Mitchell split time and both allowed six goals on the day, as the Hounds put 52 shots at the Sharks' goaltenders.

Jaelei Meyer led the Hounds' offence Sunday with seven points Berisoff had six and Howe had five.

The Hounds were 3/6 with the man advantage and the Sharks were 1/3.

Game three of the series goes Thursday at Battleford Arena.
