Sharks under fire against Hounds

The Hounds, who sit second in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League, hosted the Sharks Saturday and scored four goals in the first period, three in the second and four more in the third period.

The Sharks' Jacy Akre was in net and turned away 48 shots in the game while the Sharks faced the high-powered Hounds with just nine skaters. Akre continues to lead the league in minutes played at 1,093, shots with 816 and saves with 720.

Delaney Ross netted the lone Sharks' goal with her seventh of the season, which surpasses her total from last season. Shania Rhinehart and Shayna Thomas assisted on Ross's marker.

The Sharks were shorthanded seven times in the game, which the Hounds capitalized on twice. Notre Dame killed their only shorthanded situation in the game.

Olivia Howe, who is tied for the league lead in points, had six goals and two assists and became the first player in league history to record more than 100 goals in her career. Also leading the Hounds offensively were Brittany Berisoff with two goals and five assists and Kelty Apperson, who had five assists.

The Sharks were outshot 59-10 Saturday and were scheduled play to the Hounds Sunday as well, but the game was cancelled.

The next action for the Sharks will be against Prince Albert on the road Wednesday.
