When a team outshoots their opponents by 21 shots the end result is often a win. That was the case for the Battlefords Midget Stars Thursday when they played in the Willow Cree Memorial Sport Centre against the Beardy's Blackhawks.
The Stars out shot the Blackhawks 24-12 in the first period, 18-6 in the second and fired 11 shots on net in the third period.
The Stars earned their third win of the season with a convincing 7-2 victory over the last place Blackhawks.
The Stars' offence started early when Regan Yew scored his third of the season 30 seconds into the game.
The Stars followed that with four more first period goals. First, Justice Gardypie scored for the Blackhawks to tie the game, but it was all Stars after that.
Josh Bly, the team's leading scorer, netted his fourth of the season shorthanded from Ashton Clark.
Five minutes later, Terrin Belosowsky scored his second of the season on a power play from Bly and Braden Lacoursiere.
Austin Duzan scored later in the first period from Yew and Clark. It was Duzan's first goal of the year.
With 28 seconds left in the first period, Keifer Hintz got in on the scoring with his first of the season from Bly.
Beardy's scored once on a power play in the second period, but that was answered by Maxim Powiada scoring for the Stars. His second of the season was assisted by Yew and Duzan.
Belosowsky scored his second of the game in the third period from Bly to secure the win. Bly finished with a four-point night while Yew had three, as those two lead the team in points. Bly has eight points in seven games while Yew has six in seven games.
Ryan Rewerts made 30 saves for his second win of the season.
The Stars will put their two-game winning streak on the line Thursday when they host the Prince Albert Mintos. The Stars will also be on the road this weekend in Tisdale to face the 4-2-1-0 Trojans.
