On a night where they were without a number of players and their head coach and general manager Brandon Heck due to suspensions from a post-game scuffle against the Kindersley Klippers Tuesday, the Battlefords North Stars came through with a gritty showing on the road.

In a battle for first place in the Olympic Buildings Division standings, the North Stars picked up a 3-2 shootout win over the Humboldt Broncos Wednesday evening at the Elgar Petersen Arena.

MacGregor Sinclair had the lone goal in the skills competiton, while Kolby Matthews stopped all three Broncos shooters that he faced to go along with the 39 saves he made over 65 minutes.

Sinclair and Layne Young both scored for the North Stars in regulation, while Chasteon Braid had a pair of helpers.

Braydon Nelson, who was acquired earlier in the day from the VIJHL’s Kerry Park Islanders, had an assist in his first game with the team.

Logan Schatz and Conner Lukan both found the back of the net for the Broncos, while Jacob Wassermann turned aside 32 shots in the loss.

The North Stars, who now have a 11-1-1-0 record, will be back in action Saturday for a rematch against the Klippers in Kindersley.
