Three Battlefords Midget Bandits traded in their uniforms for Pilot Butte Storm attire in the last month, as they were picked up to play in Medicine Hat at the Midget B Women's Fastball Western Canadian Championships.
The three locals, Erin Heinemann, Tori Heinemann and Sydney Rempel were key contributors to Storm earning a silver medal at westerns, which began Aug. 4.
Rempel made five pitching appearances in four days and also saw some time in left field while Tori was her personal catcher for most of the weekend and Erin took over the spot of starting shortstop as the Storm played 10 games on their way to the silver medal.
Tori and Erin both won player of the game awards and Erin was named the most sportsmanlike player of the tournament.
The Storm started the tournament with 10-0 and 11-10 wins on the first day.
Friday, Pilot Butte beat the host Medicine Hat Thunder 14-5, but later that day, the Storm's winning streak came to an end, as the Nanaimo Diamonds beat them 6-5.
Saturday morning, the Storm lost once again by a 6-5 score this time to the Angels from Manitoba. Tori Heinemann won the player of the game for the Storm, her first of two on the weekend. The Storm won their final round robin game 10-5 over the Calgary Triple Threats.
The 4-2 round robin record was good enough to get the Storm into a tiebreaker. After the South Delta Invaders won their first tiebreaker they didn't have anything left in the tank and were mercied by the Storm in a late night tiebreaker Saturday.
Pilot Butte met up with the Kindersley Edge Realty Royals, who beat them in provincials in Unity. Pilot Butte went on to win 14-10 and move to the semi finals and it was Erin Heinemann winning the player of the game award in this game.
The Storm beat the Angles by the same score they lost in the round robin, 6-5, to advance to the championship game against Nanaimo. Tori Heinemann won the player of the game for the second time for her efforts in this game.
The Storm battled hard, but no one could beat Nanaimo on the weekend as they went through the tournament undefeated and won 7-4 in the championship game.
Now for most players the softball season officially comes to an end, but for some the season will continue for a few more weeks. The first ever Fall Ball Zone Provincial Championships for boys and girls born in 1995 and '96 will take place in Unity, as all eight zones from Saskatchewan will compete during the September long weekend.
