It was an up and down start for Robyn Silvernagle and her Twin Rivers Curling Club rink Tuesday at the opening day of the 2018 Viterra Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Melfort.

Silvernagle, who is joined on her squad by third Jolene Campbell, second Dayna Demers and lead Kara Thevenot, was on the wrong end of an 8-5 decision in the afternoon draw to Regina’s Chantelle Eberle as she fell behind by a score of 5-1 after four ends.

The team bounced back in the evening as Silvernagle made a great shot for a single point in an extra end to defeat Moose Jaw’s Penny Barker 4-3 in a rematch of last year’s provincial final.

Heading into Wednesday’s games, Silvernagle is tied with Barker, Saskatoon’s Sherry Anderson and Regina’s Ashley Howard for third place in the standings with a 1-1 record.

Eberle and Saskatoon’s Stefanie Lawton lead the way with 2-0 marks,

Silvernagle will return to the ice at 10 a.m. Wednesday to face Carlyle’s Candace Chisholm (0-1) before facing Anderson at 3 p.m.

The top four teams in the round-robin will advance to the playoffs, with the final game taking place Sunday at 5 p.m.

The winner of the provincial playdowns will go on to represent Saskatchewan at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Penticton, B.C. from Jan. 27 to Feb. 4.
