It's been a pretty good Monday for Battlefords North Stars forward MacGregor Sincair.

A couple of hours after being named Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League player of the week, the 19-year-old from Irma, Alta. announced his committment to the NCAA's Canisius Golden Griffins.

Heading into Tuesday's home game against the La Ronge Ice Wolves, Sinclair has 16 goals and 17 assists in 22 games and is in a tie for fifth in league scoring with Logan Schatz of the Humboldt Broncos and Estevan Bruins teammates Kaelan Holt and Michael McChesney with 33 points.

Sinclair had 22 points in 50 games during his rookie campaign last year and had six points in 12 playoff contests during the North Stars' run to the Canalta Cup.

The Golden Griffins, who are based out of Buffalo, N.Y., compete in the Atlantic Hockey conference and currently sit in first place in the standings with an 8-4-1 record.

They made their only trip to the NCAA's Frozen Four tournament in 2013, where they lost in the first round to the Quinnipiac Bobcats.

Sinclair joins Flin Flon Bombers forward Robert Johnson (Air Force), Melfort Mustangs defenceman Tyler Heidt (Alaska-Anchorage) and Nipawin Hawks blueliner Josh McDougall (Mercyhurst) as players from the SJHL who are currently committed to NCAA Division I programs.
