Skate Battlefords will host three skating events to end their season before the end of March.
The first event is the Region 13 Invitational Competition Feb. 22-23 at the Don Ross Arena. It will consist of skaters from the Rivers West district, stretching from Meadow Lake to Kindersley. Over 90 skaters have registered for the competition, which translates to 340 individual performances.
Skate Canada Saskatchewan's High Performance Figure Skating Team will be performing in the "Saskatchewan Stars on Ice" ice show in Battleford at the Battleford Arena March 3. The ice show starts at 6:00 p.m. Skate Canada only brings the ice show to certain regions each year. The proceeds from the show go directly to develop figure skating in the province.
The High Performance Team is made up of 28 male and female figure skaters from across Saskatchewan aged 12-22 years old. They will perform solo, pair, dance pair programs and group numbers to modern and traditional music. Highlighting the show will be Canadian Novice Pairs Champions Keelee Gingrich and Davin Portz from Alberta, as well as Saskatchewan Canadian Junior Ladies' competitor Shelby Hall and Junior Dance competitors Courtney Royer and Addison Voldeng. There will also be performances by local skaters Jalissa Klippenstein, Cortni Millhouse, Corinne Sokul and Kira Tollefson who competed at the 2014 Saskatchewan Winter Games. Also, interpretive programs by Jadie Fennig and Kennedy Shaefer will be performed.
Tickets for the show are $8 for adults, $5 for seniors, $3 for spectators 18 and under and children under six are free.
The final event is a country-themed carnival 2-4 p.m. March 16 at the Civic Centre. The event will feature the entire Battlefords club, ranging in age from three to 17.
