Skies stayed clear for Ladies' Open

The forecast didn't look great heading into the weekend, but that didn't deter 30 golfers from competing in the Ladies' Northwest Open at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club.

Saturday, LeeAnn Cunningham tees off on the 15th hole, as her and her partner Rhonda Seidel were on their way to finishing first in the first flight of the team division on the weekend.

The forecast didn't look great heading into the weekend, but that didn't deter 30 golfers from competing in the Ladies' Northwest Open at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club.

There were individual and team flights on Saturday and Sunday in North Battleford with local golfers joined by several from outside the Battlefords.

In the championship individual flight, Kathy Ziglo finished with a 76 Saturday and matched that score Sunday to earn the trophy and title of ladies' club champion The Saskatoon golfer makes it three straight Northwest Ladies' Open Championships.

Lorie Boyle was second with Joanne Schiller third in the championship flight.

In the first flight, Paula Scherr fired a first round 88 and a second round 89 to win the flight. One stroke back was Cheryl Hartl and in third in the first flight was Sherry Huyghebaert.

Sixteen ladies competed in the individual division.

There were 12 teams in the team event, Janet George, and her partner Debbie MacGregor won the team championship flight. They shot 80 and 83 to win the championship flight by five strokes. In second place were Shirley Helmerson and Monique Bonneau. Lori Rittwage and Diane Bethone were third in the championship flight.

In the first flight, Rhonda Seidel and LeeAnn Cunningham finished with a two-round score of 171 to take top honours. Second in the first flight were Debbie Iwanchuk and Diane Graham. Darcy Tkatchuk and Jen Faford were third in the first flight.

The next major event at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club is the Battlefords North Stars Classic June 23.
