Although the North Battleford Comprehensive High School wrestling team is small, they were able to bring home medals at the regional wrestling tournament Saturday.
Regionals will be the second last high school wrestling tournament of the year, where the wrestlers compete against others from rural towns. If a wrestler places in the top four at regionals, they will advance to provincials, which will be held in Regina this weekend.
NBCHS sent three wrestlers to regionals this year - Erica Landrie, Taisley Isaac, and Taylor Reiley. These three are all Grade 12 students competing in their last year of high-school wrestling.
In Landrie's weight class there were three other competitors. Landrie won all three fights and will not only be advancing to provincials, but also took home the regional gold medal.
In the 60kg weight class, Isaac competed with 10 others. Isaac won her first two fights, lost her second fight to the gold medalist, and then won her last two fights to qualify for provincials. Isaac placed third in her weight class.
The final member of the team, Reiley also advanced to provincials. Reiley placed first out of 13 wrestlers. Reiley had a bye and then won his next three matches.
At provincials the NBCHS team will compete with Regina, Saskatoon and the other wrestlers from rural towns that advanced to provincials.
