The Redhawks managed seven hits off of Nathan Mullet including a home run by Jason Fechter.
The other game played in the opening week saw the defending champion Lloydminster Meridian Twins fall 8-7 to the Border City Blue Jays Monday.
Colbey Field pitched 5.1 innings picking up the win and Clayton Ermel earned the save. Warren Stang and Matt Loree each pitched three innings for the Twins, as Stang was saddled with the loss.
