St. Walburg evens up NSRHL final

The St. Walburg Eagles tied up the NSRHL final with a 5-4 win at home Thursday night against the Wilkie Outlaws. The best-of-seven series is tied at one game apiece. St. Walburg led 1-0 after the first period and took a 4-3 lead into the third.

The St. Walburg Eagles tied up the NSRHL final with a 5-4 win at home Thursday night against the Wilkie Outlaws.


The best-of-seven series is tied at one game apiece.


St. Walburg led 1-0 after the first period and took a 4-3 lead into the third. The Outlaws and Eagles traded goals in the final frame to make it a 5-4 final in favour of St. Walburg.


Darren Delainey, Cole Fern, Jordan Fuder, Kevin Nasby and Zach Wourms were the Eagles' goal scorers. Wilkie received goals from Rick Cey, Barrett Penner, Will Rathje and Mitch Suchan.


Game three of the series is Wednesday night in Wilkie.


Both teams were in action in their respective provincial tournaments. In the senior C championship, Wilkie dropped game two of the best-of-three series 6-3 to Hudson Bay. The Outlaws came back and won the deciding game 9-0 Sunday night to advance to play Radville in the final.


In the senior D tournament, the Eagles edged Kelvington 5-4 in St. Walburg Saturday night. St. Walburg advances to play the winner of Gull Lake and Avonlea in the final.
